MiMo Code Commands Reference
Every slash command, keyboard shortcut, and agent explained.
Slash Commands
| Command | Description | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| /init | Generate or update AGENTS.md | Run first in a project. The agent studies the codebase and writes guidance into AGENTS.md. |
| /connect | Connect or sign in to a model provider | Change provider or credentials without restarting. |
| /models | Switch models | Pick a different model for the current session. |
| /agents | Switch agents | Move between the build, plan and compose agents (also via Tab). |
| /thinking | Toggle thinking-block visibility | Show or hide the agent's reasoning blocks. |
| /rebuild | Rebuild context from the latest checkpoint | Frees context while keeping recent messages verbatim. |
| /undo | Undo the latest message and its file changes | Revert the last turn, including edits it made. |
| /redo | Restore an undone message and its file changes | Re-apply a change you undid. |
| /compact | Summarize a long session | Shrink the context without losing the thread (alias /summarize). |
| /dream | Consolidate project memory | Fold durable knowledge from recent work into memory. |
| /distill | Distill repeated workflows | Package workflows you repeat into skills, subagents or commands. |
| /goal | Set a judge-verified stop condition | Runs until a judge model agrees the condition is met; /goal clear aborts. |
| /review | Review a commit, branch or pull request | Defaults to uncommitted changes. |
| /clear | Start a new session | Reset the conversation; project memory persists (alias /new). |
| /status | Show system and session status | Model, session and system information. |
| /exit | Exit MiMoCode | Leave the TUI (aliases /quit, /q). |
Keyboard Shortcuts
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|

Agents in Detail
Plan (read-only)
Press Tab before your first message, or start with mimo --agent plan. The agent analyses your request and the codebase and presents a plan. No code is modified. Approve it, then switch to the build agent.
Best for: Complex refactors, architecture changes, unfamiliar codebases.
Build (default)
The build agent is the default and has full tool permissions, so it makes changes immediately. Good for simple, well-understood tasks.
Best for: Bug fixes, small features, known codebases.
Compose
Press Tab before your first message to enter the compose agent (Compose stays locked once entered). It plans first, then builds. For spec-driven work the docs recommend the /compose-next skill on the build agent.
Best for: New features, multi-file changes.
Memory System
MiMo Code's persistent memory system is what sets it apart for long-horizon tasks. Checkpoints are written automatically as a session runs — there is no manual checkpoint command. Here's how it works:
Project Memory
Stored under the MiMoCode data directory (~/.local/share/mimocode/memory/). Contains project rules, architecture decisions, and learned patterns. Persists across sessions.
Checkpoints & Rebuild
A checkpoint-writer subagent snapshots session state automatically. When the context fills up, /rebuild reconstructs it from the latest checkpoint while keeping recent messages; /undo reverts the latest message and its file changes.
Dream & Distill
/dream consolidates project knowledge. /distill packages repeated workflows into skills, subagents or commands. These processes keep memory compact and relevant.
AGENTS.md
Create AGENTS.md at the project root for rules the agent should always follow; /init generates or updates it from the codebase. Similar in spirit to Claude Code's CLAUDE.md.
Quick Tips
- Always run /init first in a new project — it sets up the foundation for everything else.
- Run /rebuild when context runs low — it frees context from the latest checkpoint without losing recent messages.
- Write a good AGENTS.md — include coding conventions, tech stack, and key architectural decisions.
- Switch providers mid-task — use
/connectto change providers, or cheaper models for planning and a stronger model to execute. - Disable telemetry if working with private code.
- Max Mode trades cost for quality — enable for complex tasks, disable for simple ones.
